New Legislation to Increase Access: AB 1338 Medi-Cal Exercise and Mental Well-Being Act
Assemblymember Petrie-Norris has introduced AB 1338 will add fitness and wellness services to the list of pre-approved Community Supports under California Advancing and Improving Medi-Cal (CalAIM) In-Lieu of Services (ILOS) program.
The policy will advance health equity, improve quality of life and provide long-term healthcare savings for Medi-Cal recipients.
California Moves is new public service campaign focused on educating and inspiring Californians to move for their physical and mental fitness.Campaign will launch on May 1st.

California Fitness Alliance Signs Equal Pay Pledge to Ensure Pay Equity for Women
As part of its mission to be a fair and inclusive industry, the California Fitness Alliance (CFA) has taken a stand to help close the gender pay gap by signing the California Equal Pay Pledge. The Pledge is part of the #EqualPayCA initiative led by First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom in collaboration with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls, the California Partners Project and the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency. The First Partner honored CFA and more than 100 other pledge signatories at a March 14 event held at the Governor’s Mansion in Sacramento on Equal Pay Day. Read more HERE
Educating our Elected Officials on the Importance of Physical Activity and the Fitness Industry
In 2022 the CFA Team met with California state legislators to advocate and educate on the essential role of physical activity and the fitness industry. As a result several Assemblymembers have agreed to author/sponsor legislation that will increase access to physical activity and fitness centers for many Californians.
CFA joined the Advisory Board of the Physical Activity Alliance
In 2022, the CFA joined the Advisory Board of the Physical Activity Alliance (PAA). The Physical Activity Alliance is the nation’s largest and most inclusive community of physical activity advocates, researchers, academics, and practitioners. The PAA has several key initiatives including developing and implementing a system of measurement that will enable exercise to be prescribed and measured in the healthcare system.
